Ladies’ Health Day 2020

The CRS Ladies’ Health Day 2020 was held on 6 November, once again at the Wainoni-Aranui Community Centre. Despite the uncertainties and challenges of this year, the event was well attended by 56 women and 44 babies/preschoolers of 13 ethnicities. The event was opened by Sally Pitama of Ngāi Tahu.

Two workshops were held: yoga and the “Value of Play” by Sport Canterbury.

A broad selection of organisations set up information stalls. Health organisations included BreastScreen South, Family Planning, Pegasus Health and the Pregnancy Centre. Other information groups included Christchurch City Libraries, Citizens Advice Bureau, Delta Community Trust, Hagley Community College, Ministry of Social Development, Plunket, Red Cross, Purapura Whetu. In addition, safety information was provided by groups like Fire and Emergency and Surf Lifesaving NZ.

Attendees of the event were divided by language into four groups (Farsi/Dari, Pastu/Amharic/Arabic, Nepali/Somali and other languages) and shown around the stalls by interpreters.
