Christchurch Mosque Victims Group declared New Zealand Community of the Year
CRS extends its congratulations to the Christchurch Mosque Victims Group, which was recently declared New Zealand Community of the Year. This award recognises a “rōpū – group of people that together has made an outstanding difference to their community”. The judges praised the grace and forgiveness demonstrated by the victims in the aftermath of 15 March 2019, and their denunciation of xenophobia.

Maha Galal has been incredibly supportive of Christchurch’s Muslim communities since the attacks, and accepted the award of behalf of the group along with Rashid Omar (on behalf of the families of the shuhada) and Hassan Roble (on behalf of the families of the injured). Maha is also the Clinical Social Work Leader, TIC at CRS, and the organisation is so proud of her and feels fortunate to have her as a member of the team.
